Peter Ord is a Canadian/British citizen who was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in South-east Asia, which led to his interest in global cultural and the natural world.
After receiving a BA in Economic & Asian Studies from the University of Victoria in Canada, Peter worked as an investment and hotel sales executive in London UK in the nineties, before making a career shift and pursuing an MA in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh, with a focus on early Vietnam architecture.
Peter established Archaeomark, a cultural resource management agency, in British Columbia in the early 2000’s, working with Indigenous communities, museums, and environmental non-profits across the province. In 2014, he became Vice President of Knowledge, Collections and Archives at the Royal BC Museum, and then as Executive Director of the Bateman Foundation until early 2022.
In the last two years Peter has worked in Ethiopia, Bolivia and Colombia with international development agency Catalyste+, while working to establish an Indigenous Protected & Conserved Areas with Indigenous partners in BC. Peter enjoys travelling and outdoor pursuits with his wife and two kids, and is most at peace when cooking, eating and conversing with people from far-away places.
